Building Trust with Aboriginal Communities: The Role of the Aboriginal Languages Trust

Presenters: Jazlie Davis & Jayden Kitchener-Waters

The NSW Aboriginal Languages Trust is an Aboriginal-led NSW Government agency, recently established under the Aboriginal Languages Act 2017. Big growth and big learning were necessary pathways the Trust had to walk to become a place that properly understands and responds to Communities’ Language needs across the state. Aboriginal Language Communities have been front and centre in this growth, challenging the typical culture and practices of a traditional government agency, to build a Languages Trust that can work for them.
