Kajili Warlpiri-rli pina-mani, ngula kurdu-kurdu kapi pina-jarrimi ('If taught in Warlpiri, children will learn'): WETT's vision for learning on country in four Warlpiri communities

Presenters: Annette Patrick Nampijinpa, Kirsten Egan Nangala, Michaeline Gallagher Napaljarri

The Warlpiri Education Training Trust (WETT) was started in 2005 by Warlpiri educators and traditional owners to invest mining royalties in a range of culturally and linguistically grounded education and training initiatives in the four Warlpiri communities of Yuendumu, Nyirrpi, Lajamanu and Willowra in the Tanami region of Central Australia. Since then, WETT has supported a range of partnerships and programs that achieve Warlpiri education priorities in bilingual and bi-cultural education, early childhood, youth leadership, training and development, adult learning, and employment. WETT has built strong governance processes and invested in succession planning, through mentoring young members.
